The deadline for third party candidates to appear on the November ballot has by now passed in many states, but it may still be possible to write-in a name on the ballot.
These are the states do not allow write-in candidates:
- Arkansas
- Hawaii
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Nevada
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
While all other states allow write-ins on the ballot, 31 states require the name to be registered with the local election officer ahead of time, and five more states require the name to be registered after the election.
These states have no restrictions at all on what name you can put on your ballot:
- Alabama
- Iowa
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- Wyoming
