Mississippi

This is a deep Red state that Trump won in 2016, 2020 and 2024. It is normally considered red when it comes to the Senate race, and it is red when it comes to 3 out of 4 House races. HOWEVER, in 2026, there is an unusual possibility that the Democrat could win a Senate seat here for the first time since 1982, so this Senate race is Purple! And because of re-districting, formerly blue District 2 is also now considered Purple.

Senate Race

This is considered a Purple race for Senate. It is not a priority race for Democrats, and it would be a long shot for the Democratic candidate, Scott Colom, to win this race. However, since it is certainly possible that he could win here, vote swappers should not risk being a spoiler in this race.

The Democrat lost by just over 10% in the 2020 Senate race here, and by less than 8% in 2018. Private polling in April 2026 showed the Democrat just 3% behind the Republican incumbent, Cindy Hyde-Smith. Hyde-Smith is increasingly unpopular in Mississippi, and her challenger, Scott Colom, is mobilizing Mississippi’s Black population – the largest of any state in the country – to oust her.

STRATEGIC VOTING RECOMMENDATION:

Vote Scott Colom (D) for US Senate in Mississippi, and swap your vote with a voter in a blue or red state if you are tempted to vote for Independent candidate Ty Pinkins. Vote swapping can increase the chances of a Democratic victory here, while also increasing the chances of an independent getting more votes in another state where they can’t spoil the election in favor of Republicans.
