Maine

Not registered to vote? You’re in luck! This is one of the states that allows you to register AND vote on Election Day at your nearest town or city clerk’s office. Bring ID and wear a mask, and don’t forget to VOTE!

Presidential Primary – March 5th, 2024

CLOSED PRIMARY – You must be registered as a Democrat in order to vote in the Democratic primary.

If you want your vote to count as a vote to survive, vote for Marianne Williamson on March 5th! Marianne stands for a ceasefire in Gaza, negotiations in Ukraine, an end to warmongering with China, the abolition of nuclear weapons and a full-scale mobilization to address the climate emergency.

However, Marianne Williamson is not on the Maine primary election ballot, so your only option is to add her as a “write-in” candidate on your ballot paper.

This is a primary election solely for the purpose of choosing the Democratic nominee for President. Your vote does not in any way support or enable Trump to get back in! But neither should it be merely a coronation for Joe Biden. He needs to earn our vote. And he needs to get a clear message from the citizens of this country who do not accept the status quo and want to see the changes that Marianne Williamson stands for. Vote to survive!

Presidential Election – Nov 5th, 2024

This is now a (light) PURPLE state! It has traditionally voted Democratic in Presidential elections, but the gap is very narrow and opinion polls show that Trump could potentially win Maine in 2024. It is absolutely critical to our survival that we retain this state for Biden in 2024, whatever we may dislike about Biden!

This means, because of the electoral system that we have, that your vote, if you live in Maine, is almost as crucial to the final outcome as it would be if you lived in a “battleground” state like Pennsylvania, Michigan, or Wisconsin.

If you live in Maine, your vote is critical to our survival. If you vote for a third party or don’t vote at all, you might as well be giving your vote to Trump in this state. It’s that close. Please vote! And please vote for Biden in this state, even though he is not the candidate we need for our survival. If you cannot bear the thought of voting for Biden, please consider vote swapping!

Senate Race

The Senate seat of Republican incumbent Susan Collins is one of the most important targets for Democrats in order to re-take control of the Senate and enable a Biden administration to pass legislation opposed by current Republican Senate Leader, Mitch McConnell. Susan Collins is being challenged by Democrat Sara Gideon.

Susan Collins has challenged President Trump on a number of occasions, but has voted along with Trump and his supporters in the Senate at other crucial times when her vote could have made the difference. Even if Collins were the ideal Senator, the real choice here is between a Congress controlled by Mitch McConnell and a Congress controlled by the Democrats.

A vote for Sara Gideon is a vote to survive!

Because Maine has Ranked Choice Voting, voters in Maine have the additional option of voting for Lisa Savage or another third party/independent candidate, listing Sara Gideon as your second choice.

Voting 1st choice: Lisa Savage, 2nd choice: Sara Gideon is a vote to survive!

House Races

The best we can hope for in 2020 at the Presidential and Senate levels is to get rid of Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell so that we will at least survive the next four years. But in the medium term, we need to elect politicians who support the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, the Nuclear Ban Treaty and other real, sustainable solutions to the global threats facing us all.

Luckily, we already have over 100 such politicians in the House of Representatives. We need to make sure they get re-elected, and we need to elect more of them!

If you live in one of these US Congressional Districts, you have a progressive member of Congress to support!

 District 1 – Chellie Pingree
