This is currently considered to be a purple congressional district. This was a solid Blue seat but re-districting means Democrats will have to fight very hard to hold onto this seat. In 2024, the Democrat, Veronica Escobar, won this seat with a margin of 19.1 percent, or 42,110 votes, over the Republican, Irene Armendariz-Jackson. Meanwhile, In 2024, Harris won in this seat by 16 percent.
An estimated 274,497 eligible voters, or 55.4 percent, did not vote at that election in Texas District 16, and 156 voted for a third (or fourth) party. There are also 19,541 in this district who have turned 18 since 2024 and are now eligible to vote!
