This is a RED congressional district, where the Democrat doesn’t really stand a chance of winning. After the Alaska primary on August 18, 3 Democratic candidates dropped out, leaving Independent Bill Hill in second place. The remaining Democrat, Eric Hafner, got only 3.8% of the primary vote. With Alaska’s ranked choice voting system, Bill Hill has the best chance of taking this seat from incumbent Republican, Nick Begich.
In 2024, Trump won Alaska by 13 percent. However, Begich won this seat with a margin of only 2.4 percent, or 7,876 votes, over the Democrat, Mary Peltola.
(Meanwhile, an estimated 213,709 eligible voters, or 39.9 percent, did not vote in the 2024 election in Alaska At-large District, and there are also 20,457 in this district who have turned 18 since 2024 and are now eligible to vote! )
