Libertarian Party
The Libertarian Party tends to field more candidates than any other third party, although their politics may well be unacceptable to many vote swappers. They suggest that government, if it exists at all, should just protect its citizens’ lives and property from direct violence and theft – a simple idea with complex implications.
For instance, according to the Party platform, Libertarians oppose “all efforts by government to redistribute wealth, or to control or manage trade…” They also favor a “free market health care system” and other policies that most progressives would see as benefitting the rich at the expense of the poor.[1]
In 2026, there are Libertarian candidates for the Senate registered in Arkansas, Idaho, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. The Party is so far fielding 17 candidates for the House in 2026 in 8 states.
